In Georgia, points are added to your driver’s license when you are convicted of certain traffic violations. The system ranges from 2 to 6 points per violation, depending on the severity.

Your license can be suspended based on how many points you accumulate within a specific time frame:

• 15 points within 24 months (Adults) → License Suspension
• Under Age 18: 4 points within 12 months → Suspension
• Under Age 21: 4 points from a single traffic stop → Suspension

Most violations fall within 2 to 6 points, depending on the offense. 

The more serious the violation, the higher the points added to your license.

You may not receive points for certain violations, such as:

• Speeding less than 15 mph over the speed limit
• Driving “Too Fast for Conditions”

The good news is—you may be able to reduce points on your Georgia driver’s license.

Point Reduction Rules:

• You can reduce up to 7 points
• Allowed once every 5 years
• Must complete a Georgia DDS Certified Driver Improvement Course
• In accordance with O.C.G.A §40-5-86

After completing a certified course:
